The Flying Scot racing jib by North Sails is made out of 3.8oz fabric and includes the vision window and a roll bag. The jib is cut for loose, snug, or tight rig tensions. You will want to choose the cut that matches the tension of your forestay. If you need assistance determining the proper rig tension for your Flying Scot please contact us with your questions.
The price includes the Flying Scot Sailing Association royalty.
Please choose your tension – Loose, Snug, or Tight:
For optimal sail trim, it’s important that the tension on the luff of the jib match the curvature of the sag in the forestay. This is one of the two items that we look for when tuning boats. Using a Loos Gauge (item # 690917) we measure the tension on the forestay. If it’s between 0 and 80 lbs of tension, then you are sailing with a loose rig and you will want a loose cut jib. If the tension is between 80 and 120 lbs, then you are sailing with a snug rig, and you will want a snug cut jib. Finally, if you sail with more than 120 lbs of tension on the forestay, then you will want a tight cut jib.
