This is the cable that passes through the centerboard sheave to pull the board up.  It is 5/32″ stainless cable with a loop in one end.  The cable is no longer standard on new Flying Scots as we now use 3/16″ prestretch line that does not spur like the cable.  The cable is still the best option for longevity.  If you would like to use the line instead of the cable please find it linked below.
